VESTIGIAL FEATURES
Vestigial features are things that once helped our bodies in some way, but now are fairly useless. A good example of this would be the appendix. While it once helped us with digestion, now it just kind of sits around and causes us a lot of pain now and then.
When the body no longer needs something, it usually gets rid of it. The following are some vestigial features in humans that I believe will disappear in the future.
. WISDOM TEETH
As I said in the "How We Will (Most Likely) Evolve" page, our jaws have been getting smaller for a very long time. However, our teeth have stayed the same. This is why wisdom teeth have become such a problem and often need to be removed. Our mouths were originally designed to have lots of teeth, in case we lost some due to eating tough foods. However, these days our food is much easier to digest. Already, 35% of the world's population isn't born with wisdom teeth. It's very likely that in the future, these extra teeth will completely disappear from the human race.
. BODY HAIR
In the past, body hair did many things for us. It kept us warm, and thanks to cutis anserina (goose bumps) it also helped us appear bigger and more threatening. However, we really don't need either of those things anymore. Humankind has no predators, and through the use of machinery we are able to regulate the temperature of our environments. Human body hair has already become a lot thinner and shorter than it used to be, and I believe that over time it will disappear completely. We just don't need it to keep us safe anymore.
