TECHNOLOGY

One of the most interesting ways we could evolve is with technology. This is already happening, through biohacking (the process where people modify their bodies in order to “better” themselves), but it’s at a very early and primitive stage right now. A lot of biohacking today is just people implanting bits of technology into their bodies or injecting chemicals into themselves, and then waiting to see what happens. In the future, however, this science could completely change the human race.

. WE COULD BECOME CYBORGS

Thanks to technology, our sci-fi fantasies of half man, half machines might become reality. Technically, this is already happening with things such as prosthetic legs, but in the future this science could get a lot more advanced. One branch of biohackers is trying to become "living machines". They implant magnets into their fingertips, they implant little bits of identification that let them unlock doors and computers, they even implant LED lights into their bodies so they can glow. While most of these implants are completely trivial right now, in the future they could become a lot more advanced and actually turn humans into machinery.

. WE COULD LIVE FOREVER

Scientists are working on cures for many diseases, and even ways to stop the aging process. While this sounds like a good thing (who doesn't want a cure for cancer, or dementia?), it could actually have monumental impacts on the human race. After all, disease and old age is what keeps the population from exploding. If people didn't get sick, it's probable that we'd be able to live forever. This would lead to a bunch of horrible issues, in my opinion. For one thing, overpopulation is a big issue as is. It'd only get worse if nobody died. Also, I really don't think living forever would be such a good deal. You'd have to watch everything around you die, and I feel like eternal life would get very boring after a while.

These ideas, like everything on this website, is theoretical. We can't know what will happen, we can only speculate. It's possible that the human race will live forever, it's possible some big disease will wipe us all out. We really have no way of knowing. All we can do, in my opinion, is try to stop playing God and just see what happens.
